Rockford Rescue Mission has been chosen the recipient of a $10,000 donation from the Rockford New Car Dealers Association.
George Schaffner, President of the New Car Dealers Association and General Manager of Lou Bachrodt Auto Mall, presented the check Thursday morning at CherryVale Mall.
“All of us, independently, have helped the Mission over a lot of years,” Schaffner said. “It’s a great organization that gives so much.”
At last weekend’s Rockford Auto Show, anyone could vote for a local charity to receive the association’s annual $10,000 donation to a local charity. Ballots included a chance to write 100 words or less about the charity, and judges chose Jill Grimm’s words as the deciding factor:
“This year, I have grumbled about the subzero days, strong winds, and mounds of snow…even though I continually enjoy a warm house, warm meals, and a warm bed. Just imagine for a moment having to spend a shivering, hungry night outside. The Rockford Rescue Mission offers the needed essentials of a warm place to sleep, hot food, and spiritual blessings to the hurting homeless in our area. Last year, the Mission served 164,455 meals, and provided 58,767 nights of lodging. The Rockford Rescue Mission can do what we as individuals can’t: bring someone in from the cold.”
This year’s donation brings the association’s total over the past 19 years to $190,000 to local charities, Schaffner said.
