'I had no idea ...'

On Facebook, we asked readers to finish the following statement:

Before I saw what happens at Rockford Rescue Mission, I had no idea …

Here are some of the responses we received:

… how many people need food and shelter in our area.

… that the RRM is a prime example of recovering lives in our area, serving northern Illinois. It's much more than food and shelter. They're about restoring hope and direction. The have a clinic, safely house women and children, teach life skills-prep for GED and work, offer faith-based recovery from drugs and alcohol, counseling, so much more. Visit and be amazed and humbled.

… that it could help save my life

… that I could be living the life that I am now, six years clean!

… there was a playground in the back. Also, how easy it is to donate items at the door behind the building.

… that if it were not for the help I received at the men's crisis center, I don't know what I would have done. They were very helpful and patient with me while I was in the process of getting approved for disability. I will always be grateful. Thank you all.

… I could become friends with the workers, volunteers, and residents of the Rescue Mission. I had no idea that God had created such a wonderful place for His lost sheep to find food and shelter so close to home. I had no idea that the Rescue Mission was a place where God's heart was so near. I had no idea how the Rescue Mission could change my life and help me to realize what being a servant of God really means. Thank you and God bless!

… how far reaching their program is and how many lives are being changed.

… how many people are fed each and every day.

… how wonderful God is working miracles in their lives!

… how many local people are in need.

… how many lives are changed by the work of the Mission. Once I counted seven people who I could see from where I was sitting in church, who were there and living productive and godly lives – some of them ushers and group leaders – all because the Lord had used the Mission to change their lives!
